BANKRUPTCY
Debt, Stress, and a Fresh Outlook
Debt, Accusations, Sleepless Nights, Depression, Stress
Worry, shame, fear, and distraction associated with legal issues take an emotional toll on a person. We try to “get ahead” in this game of life, often only to fall further behind and really hope just to “catch up”. Of course, having enough money allows us to provide not only for our needs but the needs of our family. Not having enough limits our ability to do that, to take care of what’s important, to have what it is we simply need, much less what we actually want. Stress can hamper our ability to function, and cause depression, illness, and destruction. It can stand in the way of our being effective at work, as a parent, in our spirituality, in our marriage. It’s that burden on our shoulders that causes us to fear the phone calls because we’re afraid it might be a creditor. It causes us to lose sleep as we angst over the bank account balance, and to stop being the person we want to be. All because we’re so stressed our credit score telling us we’re not a “credible person”. It is for all practical purposes, always working against us, always looming, and it doesn’t go away. Overburdening debt is the basis of fear, panic, denial, and depression, and there’s only so much a person can take until….Priorities – So What Is Important To You?
Is it keeping that creditor happy? They’re not going to be. Is it the ability to brag about a credit score, that malleable opinion from a bureau designed to increase revenue for the banking industry? And which by the way, you can rebuild. Is it paying off that credit card you’ve been trying to pay off for years, the one that keeps going up with a ridiculous interest rate? When you really think about it, likely not. What is important is your family, your health, your spirituality, your home, your retirement savings, your kids college education savings, the amount of time you have to spend with your spouse and kids, and the ability to take comfort in knowing “It’s going to be ok.” It’s being able to sleep soundly at night, or even to be able to take that little break once in a while without the fear of total failure looming over. That’s what’s important in life. In a nutshell, the law recognizes this, and the law allows you a fresh start. Following the rules associated with this fresh start is following the law, and there’s nothing to be ashamed of in following the law. There’s nothing to fear, to stress out about, to worry about, or to fear. That’s why the concept of bankruptcy exists.Naysayers About Bankruptcy
There are a lot of people out there who will shame those who follow the law, especially when it comes to the protections afforded under the Bankruptcy Code. These people are the “naysayers”. Those who either have something to lose by you asking for a fresh start or those who are in a similar situation and fear the unknown, so they discourage change. Ignore them. Ignore them as you would the playground bully or the aggressive jerk at the office. They do not have your best interest in mind, in fact, they have quite the opposite intent.Markwell Law, LLC
