Where is the Bankruptcy Court?

The Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri has three locations broken up by Division.  The main court is in St. Louis at the below address, other locations include Cape Girardeau and Hannibal Missouri. Remember, Bankruptcy is a federal law, not a state law.  As such, you are dealing with the federal courts.  The Missouri county in which you live only dictates which of the following three federal courthouses you will file your case in.  You will not be involved in your county’s court system. Be certain to ask your attorney if you have any questions about this.

  1. St. Louis

    Thomas F. Eagleton U.S. Courthouse:   (314) 244-4500
Located right near Bush Stadium, the public entrance to the Thomas F. Eagleton U.S. Courthouse in St. Louis is located on the East side of the building at Level 1.  Bring your picture ID, they won’t let you in the building without it.  There are parking lots in the area with varying costs but the easiest in my opinion is the Stadium West garage unless of course there’s a Cardinal’s game. The U.S. Bankruptcy Court Clerk’s Office is located on the 4th Floor.  Public transportation is available in St. Louis through Metro(link is external) Transit. When the “Redbirds” are in the playoffs, you’ll catch me on that train.

  2. Cape Girardeau

Rush Hudson Limbaugh, Sr. U.S. Courthouse:   (573) 331-8950
Located in downtown Cape Girardeau, just north of what some would call the main part of downtown, the public entrance to the Rush Hudson Limbaugh, Sr. U.S. Courthouse in Cape Girardeau is located on the East side of the building on the first level.  The building was named after Rush Limbaugh, not the one on the radio, but for his father the judge.  There is public parking available on the south side of the building. Parking is free. Bring a picture ID or they will refuse to let you in the building.

  3. Hannibal

Federal Building in Hannibal :   (573) 221-0757Federal Court Hannibal, Missouri
Warning, this federal building does not necessarily look like a courthouse and if you’re not careful, you’ll walk into the wrong building.  The building itself is fairly nondescript, and missing it is quite easy.  Yours truly here still misses it on occasion on those early morning calendars.  The public entrance to the Federal Building in Hannibal is located at 801 Broadway, Hannibal, MO 63401.  There is street parking, and there is additional parking near the Federal Building. Bring your ID and know in advance that the screening process at the front door is somewhat slow, so give yourself plenty of time. They’re going to check every bag and every nook and cranny on you, so be warned.

About the author

Guss Markwell

Originally from St. Louis Missouri, I grew up in a strong Midwest and moral family who taught me right from wrong and to stand up for my rights and the rights of others. In these tough economic times, you need an advocate on your side. Why do I practice law? Often, people are facing seemingly insurmountable opposition with little or no ability to overcome great odds. It is my position that we should all be fighting for those who find themselves alone, afraid, and at times unpopular. I subscribe to the notion that a society should be judged by how it treats its most vulnerable members. I represent, and I fight for, those people. “There is light at the end of that tunnel, don’t stop.”
